Nicole McLaren

Maestra di Danza Whirling

Hello, I am Nicole.

I am a solo artist active internationally, a stage dancer, and a dance teacher. I can spin on myself for 4 consecutive hours and hold a Guinness World Record for spinning dance. I have danced from Egypt to South Africa, in America, Mexico, and Europe, and have appeared as a spinning dancer on television in the United States on The Dr. Oz Show, co-produced by Oprah Winfrey. In Switzerland, I have danced throughout the country, accompanied by live music from the cultural band Ssassa; for example, in Zurich, at the famous floating theater Herzbaracke. I lived in the United States for 10 years and recently returned to Switzerland.

I have learned 9 languages and hold a Master of Arts in German and English from the University of Zurich. I have written articles for renowned dance magazines in Germany, America, and Australia and, in 2014, I won the Halima Award from the German magazine of the same name for my "extraordinary performance in rotating dance."

In my spinning dance work, my style is characterized by a modern approach: I combine musical and dance elements from a wide range of cultures with the original Turkish spinning technique, thus creating a new, nuanced, and contemporary stage form of spinning dance, balancing between the present and tradition.
