Hello, I am Gioacchino.
I am a director, screenwriter, and composer of soundtracks and theater music. I live in Switzerland, but I am originally from Italy. I regularly perform at the multicultural center LAC in Lugano, where I conduct workshops on the world of orchestras and soundtracks. I hold a master's degree in Music and Arts from the A. Scarlatti Conservatory in Palermo, graduating with top honors as a pianist. I had the privilege of studying "Musical Composition for Film" at the Chigiana Academy in Siena under the guidance of Maestro Luis Bacalov, an Academy Award winner. In 2010, I completed a Master of Arts at the Department of Education and Learning in Locarno (CH).
Among my recent works as a composer are the original scores for the film Reinas by Klaudia Reynicke, which I created in collaboration with the director. The film won the Grand Prix for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival 2024 and is in competition at the Sundance Film Festival 2024. I composed the theme for Tramp Limited, the production company of Italian actors Ficarra & Picone. Their latest project, in collaboration with StudioRain, is the short film Maestrale by Nico Bonomolo, for which I composed the original music. This short film triumphed at the David di Donatello 2022, winning the award for Best Short Film and was nominated for the Academy Awards® 2023. I composed the music for three theater productions directed by Mauro Avogadro: Eichmann – Dove inizia la notte by Stefano Massini, featuring Ottavia Piccolo and Paolo Pierobon, Fine Pena: Ora by Paolo Giordano, with Paolo Pierobon and Sergio Leone, and I ciechi by M. Maeterlinck, presented at the Spoleto Festival 2019. Additionally, I composed the soundtracks for Nico Bonomolo's animated short films Confined and Detours, which received several international awards. My first documentary as a director and screenwriter, Ascoltami, was presented at the Castellinaria Film Festival in 2018. With my first short film De Angelis, I received an honorable mention at the Prato Film Festival 2021. My latest film as a director and composer, Jolly, is currently being distributed. Every year, I conduct workshops on soundtracks and the making of short films at the Locarno Film Festival.
